Couples & Relationship Counselling
"My partner and I really appreciated your time.  You helped us in massive ways I can't properly explain.
The impact you had in our lives was so important and we are forever thankful."
- L & S, Ramsgate
All close relationships have their ups and downs. Couples therapy can help you make a difference in your relationship and within yourself. We provide a safe, supportive environment in Canterbury for partners from across Kent to explore their thoughts and feelings together.
Navigating Relationship Dynamics
We help you work through individual issues that may be impacting your relationship, or support you with the dynamics between you as a couple that are causing pain and distress. This work includes:
-
Understanding underlying issues to find a way forward.
-
Exploring ways of relating, informed by past attachment experiences.
-
Using effective and simple communication techniques to open up dialogue.
-
Disentangling the impact of the past from your present relationship.
A Psychoanalytical Approach to Connection
Relationship issues can be complex and may sometimes stem from childhood experiences as well as current pressures. Our approach is informed by psychoanalytical principles, drawing on the work of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan.
Rather than just addressing surface-level symptoms, we look at the deeper patterns. Through this lens, couples can gain new tools, ideas, and perspectives to move beyond negative cycles and gain a better understanding of one another.

What to Expect from Couples Sessions
Seeking therapy as a couple can help you address issues more openly in a safe, structured space. Depending on your needs, we may work with you together, separately, or a combination of both. Chris brings insights from his Masters degree (Birkbeck 2023) in psychoanalytical study to provide a deep, thoughtful understanding of your unique situation.
