Charlotte Mara-Patterson
Children and Young Adults

I’m an integrative therapist based in Canterbury, Kent, working with people of all ages. Before training as a counsellor, I spent over 20 years as a teacher, specialising in PE and pastoral care. That experience gave me deep insight into how people grow, struggle, and build resilience — especially children and young people. I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I’m a registered member of both the BACP and NCPS.

I aim to bring warmth, patience and real care into every session. Whether I’m working with a child, a teen, a student, or an adult, I focus on creating a space where people feel truly seen and supported. Life can be overwhelming, especially when we’re juggling so many roles — and I’m here to help you slow down, reflect and find your way forward. We’ll take things at your pace, and work together to build clarity, confidence and lasting change.

Who I work with

Chris

I work with people of all ages, from children through to adults, and often support clients through moments of change, stress, or emotional overwhelm. Some of the areas I most often work with include:

  • Children facing emotional or behavioural challenges

  • Teenagers struggling with anxiety, identity, or low self-esteem

  • University students navigating pressure, change or mental health concerns

  • Adults feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure of themselves

  • Stress, burnout and emotional exhaustion

  • Relationship or family difficulties

  • Low confidence, self-worth or motivation

  • Big life transitions or feelings of being “lost”

Whether you're a parent concerned about your child, a student finding things harder than expected, or an adult who’s simply had enough of carrying things alone — I’m here to help. My work is gentle, flexible and tailored to the individual. I aim to create a space where you or your loved one can feel truly heard, supported, and better equipped to face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.

How I work

I offer in-person sessions in Canterbury, as well as online therapy for those who prefer the flexibility or comfort of meeting from home. My approach is warm, gentle and grounded. Whether I’m working with a child, teenager, student or adult, I create a calm and non-judgemental space where people can open up, explore what’s happening, and begin to feel more understood and in control.

Sessions are led by your pace and needs — there’s no pressure to ‘perform’ or talk about anything before you're ready. With children, I often use creative methods such as play therapy or metaphors to help them express what they might not yet have words for. With adults, I bring a patient, listening presence and gently help untangle whatever feels stuck or heavy. Every session is shaped by the person in front of me — and by the belief that change is always possible with the right support.
